  • Poem must be in final format on plain printer paper, in ink or typed, same number of lines and format as Whitman's poem, decorate your paper to fit your theme with color and symbol(s)
  • Reflection: Explain your poetic devices:
    • 1. What refrain or repeated phrase did you choose (repetition)
    • 2. What tone did you create and what words help depict that tone in your poem?
    • 3. What imagery did you portray and how? Give an example
    • 4. What is the theme of your poem (your message)?

• Who are the American Masters and what are their philosophical assumptions that influenced their texts?
• How do authors use literary, rhetorical and poetic devices to support their claims?
